HISTORY
Metal for the Brain is the undisputed largest and most successful all age metal festival in Australia. Blasting Canberra's Universities since it's inception in 1991 Metal for the Brain has grown from a 6 band local metal show into a huge internationally recognized metal event featuring 40 of the country's best heavy acts. Metal fans transforming the normally sedate Canberra into Australia's heavy metal capital.
.
It all started way back in 1991 when Joel Green form Armoured Angel started the festival to raise money for his good friend Alec Hurley, a brain injury victim and Quadriplegic. Alec was trying to stop a fight outside a Canberra Nightclub and after a painful chain of events was knocked to the footpath and he never walked again. Alec did not receive very much compensation for his injury from the government so Joel generously stepped in to raise some money for Alec and his family. Armoured Angel disbanded in 1996 and the responsibility of Metal for the Brain was passed to the members of Alchemist. Over the past decade the festival has consistently grown and raised thousands of dollars for the Hurley family, increased awareness of brain injury and helped to overcome some of the negative stereotypes associated with heavy music.
.
Metal for the Brain 2006 will be the 15th anniversary of the original show in 1991 and the last time the hordes flock to Canberra for what has grown to become a huge national showcase show. The finale of this iconic event is set to be legendary with the largest production and biggest line-up of bands ever staged. For one last time the Australian metal community will unite in the spirit of goodwill for Australia's biggest metal party! The Last Metal for the Brain - The end of and era!
